On the afternoon of December 15, in Dong Ha City, Mr. Hoang Nam, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, received a courtesy visit from a delegation of the Embassy of Canada in Viet Nam led by H.E. Mr. Jim Nickel, Ambassador of Canada to Viet Nam, during the delegation’s visit and working trip to the province. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Thai Huu Lieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, along with representatives of relevant provincial departments and agencies.

At the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman Hoang Nam expressed his pleasure at welcoming the delegation from the Canadian Embassy and highly appreciated the effective and practical support provided by the Government of Canada to Quang Tri Province in recent years. In particular, the project “Environmental Responsibility in Humanitarian Mine Action,” implemented by MAG with funding from the Embassy of Canada, has helped the province access advanced environmental protection standards in humanitarian activities.

Currently, Quang Tri is making strong efforts to implement various solutions toward the goal of becoming a province free from the dangers of post-war landmines and unexploded ordnance. However, the implementation process still faces many challenges, especially in terms of investment resources. Provincial leaders expressed their hope that the Embassy of Canada would continue to pay attention to and strengthen cooperation with Quang Tri through concrete programs and initiatives, thereby supporting the province in completing action plans related to addressing the consequences of landmines.

In addition, Quang Tri Province expects that, through the facilitation of the Canadian Embassy, more Canadian enterprises will come to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in the province, particularly in sectors where Canada has strengths and which Quang Tri prioritizes for investment attraction, such as green and renewable energy, carbon capture technologies, oil and gas exploration, high-tech agriculture and food processing, environmental protection, education, and healthcare.

In response, Ambassador Jim Nickel sincerely thanked the leaders of Quang Tri Province for their warm and thoughtful reception of the delegation. He affirmed that the Government of Canada attaches great importance to promoting strategic cooperation with Viet Nam, including with localities such as Quang Tri. The Ambassador also shared his strong impression following the site visit to the MAG project in Cua Tung Commune earlier that morning and expressed his hope that both sides would continue to strengthen a friendly, long-term, and sustainable cooperative relationship in the coming time.
