The 17th International Scientific Conference on the East Sea

From November 3-4, 2025, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam hosted the 17th International Scientific Conference on the East Sea in Da Nang City, under the theme “Solidarity in Uncertainty.” This prestigious annual forum brought together a large number of scholars, researchers, diplomats, and representatives from domestic and international management agencies to exchange views and share perspectives on developments in the East Sea and regional cooperation.

 

Distinguished participants included Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Le Hai Binh - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Hung Son, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam; as well as Ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic missions, scholars, and researchers. Representing Quang Tri Province, Mr. Nguyen Van Bien, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, attended the conference.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized the significance of holding the conference in Da Nang - a city long regarded as “Vietnam’s gateway to the open sea,” symbolizing the nation’s spirit of integration, connectivity, and international cooperation. He reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, cooperative, and development-oriented foreign policy, and remains steadfast in its principle of resolving disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Under the theme “Solidarity in Uncertainty,” the conference focused on analyzing and discussing key issues concerning the East Sea and the broader regional situation amid global uncertainties. Discussions covered the policy and actions adjustments of relevant countries, the roles of major powers, the impact of emerging technologies, and the growing politicization of maritime issues in the Indo-Pacific region. Delegates also underscored the importance of upholding a rules-based international order, building mutual trust, and enhancing cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.

The 17th International Conference on the East Sea was not only an occasion for scholars and policymakers to exchange views and insights, but also an opportunity to spread a message of solidarity, responsibility, and cooperation in maintaining a peaceful and stable environment and promoting sustainable development in the East Sea - a strategic area of vital importance to both the region and the world.
