On April 12, 2026, at Co Dau Park (Nam Dong Ha Ward, Quang Tri Province), the Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population (CCIHP), in collaboration with local partners, organized a child-friendly sports event themed “Every Step, Every Smile.”

The event was attended by Mr. Thai Huu Lieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Vu Song Ha, Deputy Director of Inclusion Project 1 and Deputy Director of CCIHP; along with representatives from relevant departments and agencies and staff from the Department of Foreign Affairs. The program drew approximately 460 participants, including 200 children (both children with disabilities and typically developing children), 200 caregivers, as well as a large number of teachers, volunteers, and guests.

In his remarks, Mr. Thai Huu Lieu expressed his appreciation for and high regard of this meaningful initiative by CCIHP and its partners. He highlighted the event as a practical and humane activity that builds on the success of previous initiatives, contributing to the creation of a safe, friendly recreational environment and strengthening connections among children across the province. The event also served as a response to Vietnam Disability Day (April 18).

As part of the program, children took part in a short-distance run along a route circling the park. Despite the hot weather, they completed the run with enthusiasm, encouraged by lively support from the crowd. All participants were awarded medals in recognition of their efforts and to boost their morale. The children then engaged in a variety of experiential activities, such as ice treasure hunts, statue painting, and obstacle courses, fostering interaction, bonding, and inclusion.

Beyond being a sports event, the program delivered a meaningful message on inclusive education. It provided a space where all children regardless of ability could interact and participate equally. Through these activities, children enhanced their social-emotional skills, built confidence, and improved their ability to integrate into the community, while also promoting respect for differences and empathy within society.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Thai Huu Lieu acknowledged and commended parents for their commitment in overcoming unfavorable weather conditions to bring their children to participate. He also praised teachers and caregivers for their dedication, patience, and strong sense of responsibility in nurturing and supporting children with disabilities to achieve holistic development.

The event aligns with Quang Tri Province’s priorities in strengthening social welfare, advancing inclusive education, and improving care for children, particularly those in vulnerable situations and children with disabilities. In its role as a focal point for mobilizing and coordinating foreign aid, the Department of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the effective and sustainable implementation of such meaningful initiatives in the province.

The “Every Step, Every Smile” program concluded in a joyful, safe, and meaningful atmosphere, offering children valuable experiences while spreading a message of an inclusive, caring, and compassionate community.
