Wrap-up workshop "Empowerment to persons with disabilities reaching disability right" project

On December 18, 2014, the Association for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (AEPD) held the wrap-up workshop of "Empowerment to persons with disabilities reaching disability right" project at Muong Thanh hotel, Hai Thanh ward, Dong Hoi city.

 
 
Present in the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Tien Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives from departments of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Education and Training, Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives from communes, and districts in the project area; representatives from disability clubs throughout the province.

 

 

 “Empowerment to persons with disabilities reaching disability right” project was funded by Development Cooperation Ireland (formerly Irish Aid) with €351,000 funding and implemented by AEPD from December 2011 to December 2014. The project aims at three main objectives: increase the number of people with disabilities to be enhanced with the knowledge and skills in economic and social life; improve the quality of life of the handicapped through sustainable livelihood activities and their mutual assistance; enhance the social protection for the handicapped in the province.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee appreciated the contribution that the project has made in the support to the local handicapped in order to help them improve the quality of life, strive to integrate into the community in particular and contribute to the poverty alleviation of the province in general. Mr. Vice Chairman also emphasized the necessity and importance of the socialization on supporting to the handicapped, especially in the condition that Quang Binh is a poor province where the budget for supporting the handicapped is still limited.

After 3 years of implementation, the project has organized training courses on farming, trading and social skills for more than 1500 people, supported directly on business for more than 280 people and provided vocational training for more than 200 people with disability in the province. Thanks to the support given by the project, business groups and self-reliant clubs for the handicapped were established and put into operation in 37 communes of 5 districts in the province, creating jobs and stable income that helped the handicapped to stabilize their economy and health, as well as to empower themselves among the community.
