Experience-sharing workshop on war remediation

On the morning of 5 October 2015, the Association for the Empowerment of Persons (AEPD), together with James Madison University’s Centre for International Rehabilitation and Stability (CIRS), US, held an Experience-sharing workshop on war remediation within the framework of fieldtrip program of the Regional Senior Managers" Course in ERW and Mine Action.

 

The workshop was attended by representatives from Departments of Foreign Affairs; Planning and Investment; Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Office of the Provincial People’s Committee and 30 trainees of the course who are representatives from organizations working in field of war remediation in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Srilanka.

 

 

At the workshop, experiences and activities in war remediation in Quang Binh province, including clearance, removal, and safe explosion of war remnants; supports for mine victims; and other relevant activities, were discussed and shared by representatives from Departments of Foreign Affairs; Planning and Investment; Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs; and MAG Quang Binh.

 

 

Addressing at the workshop, Ms. Do Thi Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs briefed on the war-remnants’ contamination and war remediation in recent years; highly appreciated the cooperation and supports from NGOs and international organizations for this activities; and committed to continue to actively collaborate with relevant agencies in the province to facilitate war-remediation programs and projects in Quang Binh.

 

 

On the same day, delegates of the workshop also made a fieldtrip to MAG’s UXO clearance activity in Thu Tu village, An Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district and visited a Club of People with disabilities/mine victims and a livelihood model of mine victims supported by AEPD in Nam Trach and Dong Trach communes, Bo Trach district. MAG and AEPD are known as the two most active organizations working in field of war remediation in Quang Binh in the last few years./.
