K-Market is one of Vietnam’s major supermarket and convenience store chains, with more than 150 outlets nationwide, specializing in Korean food products and consumer goods. Following several visits and working sessions in Quang Tri, K-Market has expressed strong interest in the province’s potential for developing agricultural products, with an initial focus on rice produced under the project “Improving Sustainable Incomes and Enhancing Human Resources for a Peaceful Rural Community in Quang Tri Province.” On this basis, K-Market seeks to work with Quang Tri to further develop and improve local products, introduce them into the K-Market distribution network, and explore opportunities to expand into international markets, particularly the Korean market.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman Hoang Nam highlighted that cooperation between Quang Tri Province and K-Market has gradually moved beyond initial contacts, exchanges, and field surveys towards more substantive discussions on products, quality standards, and market orientation. The province hopes to further deepen cooperation by effectively linking development support resources, production areas, and distribution networks, starting with rice and gradually expanding to other agricultural products in which Quang Tri has competitive advantages, such as pepper and coffee.

For his part, Mr. Ko Sang Goo, Chairman of K-Market Vietnam, affirmed K-Market’s strong commitment to its cooperation with Quang Tri and highly valued the potential of the province’s agricultural products. He noted that Quang Tri has a range of products with strong potential to meet market demand and expand through K-Market’s distribution network. As an initial step, K-Market plans to introduce Quang Tri’s organic rice products into its supermarket system. Looking ahead, K-Market hopes to scale up the partnership and bring an increasing number of Quang Tri agricultural products to domestic consumers while gradually facilitating their access to international markets through the K-Market network.

Building on the discussions and agreements reached at the meeting, the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee and K-Market Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation for expanding the distribution of local products and advancing the agricultural value chain in Quang Tri Province. The signing marks a new milestone in the cooperation between the two sides, providing a framework for concrete activities to strengthen production linkages, develop local products, expand markets, and promote the consumption of Quang Tri agricultural products through K-Market’s distribution network.

Under the MoU, the two sides establish a framework for cooperation based on equality, voluntariness, and mutual benefit, with the aim of expanding markets for local specialty products through K-Market’s distribution network while enhancing product quality, building brands, developing processing and logistics, and expanding export opportunities.

The two sides will also work together to commercialize products developed through KOICA-funded ODA programs, contributing to the gradual upgrading of Quang Tri’s agricultural value chains. In this cooperation, the province will provide support, facilitate connections, and create favorable conditions within the scope of its functions and authority, while K-Market will leverage its distribution network, market expertise, and commercial capabilities and explore the potential development of processing facilities, cold storage, and pre-processing and packaging facilities in Quang Tri.

The two sides will establish a Joint Working Group to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the cooperation activities. Through these efforts, the partnership is expected to foster a sustainable linkage across the production - processing - distribution - market chain, contributing to the socio-economic development of Quang Tri Province.
