Training Course Launched for the Secretarial Teams of the Laos - Vietnam Border Affairs Steering Committees from Savannakhet and Khammouane Provinces, Lao PDR

On the morning of November 18, 2025, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee solemnly held the Opening Ceremony of a Training Course on Border Affairs for the Secretarial Teams of the Laos - Vietnam Border Affairs Steering Committees from Savannakhet and Khammouane Provinces, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Attending the ceremony on the Quang Tri side were Mr. Tran Ngoc Lan, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee; Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Public Security Department; Mr. Dang Van Hoang, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command; along with representatives from relevant provincial departments and agencies. From the Lao PDR, a delegation of officials from the Secretarial Teams of the Laos - Vietnam Border Affairs Steering Committees of Savannakhet and Khammouane Provinces participated in the training course.

The training course is organized in accordance with the 2024 Minutes of Meeting between the border delegations of Quang Tri Province and the provinces of Savannakhet and Khammouane. It reflects the strong commitment of the two sides to enhancing cooperation, strengthening capacity in border management, and contributing to the consolidation of the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Tran Ngoc Lan, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee, emphasized that the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are invaluable assets nurtured over generations by the leaders and peoples of both countries. He noted that cooperation in border affairs is not only a political task of great importance but also a crucial bridge that reinforces solidarity and friendship, ensures security and order, and promotes socio-economic development in border areas. Quang Tri Province and its Lao counterparts have been working to build a border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation, and shared development. This training course, he stressed, is a practical activity aimed at improving professional capacity, updating knowledge, and facilitating exchanges of experience in managing, coordinating, and addressing issues related to border affairs between Quang Tri Province and the provinces of Savannakhet and Khammouane.

The training course welcomes 32 officials from the Secretarial Teams of the Border Affairs Steering Committees of Savannakhet and Khammouane Provinces. The participants are department-level leaders from various provincial departments, agencies, and districts. This is the first training course organized by the Quang Tri Provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee for the Lao Secretarial Teams. The program will run for five days and will be delivered in Vietnamese with interpretation.

The opening ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere imbued with the friendship between Vietnam and Laos. The training course is expected to make a practical contribution to improving the effectiveness of border affairs and strengthening mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation between the competent authorities of Quang Tri Province and its Lao counterparts in the time ahead./.
