On December 15, at the Government Office, the National Border Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs solemnly held a ceremony to commemorate its 50th anniversary (1975-2025) and to receive the First-Class Labor Order. Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Member of the Politburo and Prime Minister of the Government, attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance were current and former leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Border Committee across different periods, representatives of central ministries and agencies, border and coastal localities, as well as all officials, civil servants, and employees of the National Border Committee.

At the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Minh Vu, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a report on behalf of the National Border Committee, reviewing 50 years of development and achievements in border and territorial affairs.

Over half a century of formation and growth, the National Border Committee has recorded numerous accomplishments, leaving significant and strategic marks in progressively building peaceful, stable, friendly, and cooperative borders with neighboring countries.

In recognition of its tireless efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Party and the State have conferred upon the National Border Committee many prestigious honors, including the title of Hero of Labor, the Order of Ho Chi Minh, First-, Second-, and Third-Class Orders of Independence, along with numerous certificates of merit, emulation flags, and other distinguished awards.

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commended the dedication and outstanding achievements of successive generations of officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the National Border Committee over the past 50 years. He emphasized that the National Border Committee has been a “silent force,” tirelessly devoting its intellect and efforts day and night, taking the lead on diplomatic, legal, public opinion, and field fronts, and making an important contribution to firmly safeguarding the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland while strengthening friendly relations with neighboring countries.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the high appreciation of the Party and the State to generations of leaders, officials, and staff of the National Border Committee for their perseverance, loyalty, and dedication, making significant contributions to the cause of national construction and defense. Reflecting on the lessons learned from border and territorial affairs, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to closely adhere to the Party’s directives in pursuit of the paramount objective of safeguarding national independence, unity, and territorial integrity. He underscored the importance of remaining steadfast in principles, flexible in strategy, and upholding the rule of law in addressing border and territorial issues.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscored the importance of learning from the rich and diverse experience of earlier generations, systematizing such experience into databases, and synthesizing it into theoretical frameworks and strategic thinking in order to proactively carry out border and territorial work. At the same time, he called for continued application of the lesson of combining national strength with the strength of the times, while placing greater emphasis on investment in human and material resources for border and territorial affairs

According to the Prime Minister, practical experience has shown that in order to firmly safeguard independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, it is essential to invest in economic development for people living in border areas, so that each resident becomes a “living landmark” steadfastly guarding the nation’s frontiers. He stressed that investment in border regions should be at least equal to, if not higher than, that in inland areas.

Regarding tasks in the time ahead, against the backdrop of increasingly complex international and regional developments, the Prime Minister requested that the National Border Committee thoroughly grasp and implement the approach of the “three steadfast principles.” These include: steadfastness and flexibility in the struggle to safeguard independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; steadfastness in application of legal and technical instruments, regarding bilateral border treaties and agreements, international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), as the foremost tools for protecting national and ethnic interests; and steadfastness persevering cooperation and dialogue to address differences, seek fundamental and long-term solutions, and maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

In recognition of the Committee’s significant contributions, and on behalf of the Party and State leadership, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented the First-Class Labor Order to the National Border Committee.

On behalf of the collective leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the National Border Committee, Comrade Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his full acknowledgment of and commitment to implementing the Prime Minister’s comprehensive and insightful directives.

Comrade Le Hoai Trung affirmed that the remarkable achievements attained over the past 50 years have been made possible thanks to the close attention and guidance of the Party and State leadership, the effective coordination of ministries, agencies, and localities, as well as the significant contributions of successive generations of officials, civil servants, and employees engaged in border and territorial affairs.

In the face of rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments in the international and regional landscape, the National Border Committee will, in the time ahead, continue to uphold its proud traditions, faithfully implement the directives of the Party and the State, and devote its utmost efforts to firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Viet Nam’s legitimate rights and interests. At the same time, it will strive to maintain a peaceful and stable environment, creating favorable conditions for the country to move confidently into a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.

The commemorative ceremony served as an important occasion to reflect on proud traditions, pay tribute to previous generations, and reaffirm the determination of the National Border Committee in particular, and the diplomatic sector as a whole, to continue safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the new context./.
